A working glossary of the words we use and honest answers to the questions people actually ask before booking their first Alignment Assessment.

Answers, in plain language.

Core Concepts

TERMINOLOGY

The words we use, defined.

We use specific language because it points to specific things. Here's what the language on this site means when we use it no jargon, no clinical claims.

Structural Alignment

How your body organizes itself under gravity the relationships between posture, positioning, mobility, stability, and movement that influence how you stand, sit, and move.

The intentional practice of teaching your body new movement strategies, so it has real options instead of defaulting to the same patterns under stress or effort.

Movement Retraining

Repatterning

The process of changing habitual movement patterns first noticing how your body currently approaches something, then practicing different options until they become more familiar and usable.

Adaptability

Your capacity to respond to changing physical demands, stress, recovery needs, environments, and life circumstances while maintaining useful options.

The range of things your body can currently do with control and confidence. Capacity can develop through consistent practice and can change when certain abilities aren't used regularly.

Movement Capacity

Your ability to notice what is happening in your body how you're breathing, where you're holding tension, how you're positioned, and how movement feels without relying only on what you can see.

Body Awareness

Pattern Alignment™

Getting started

Where to begin.

Where do I actually start?

For movement based services, the Alignment Assessment™ is your starting point. It gives us a clear picture of how you currently move, what patterns we're seeing, and which areas may deserve attention first. From there, we can recommend an appropriate pathway or give you clear direction for what to work on independently.

Do I need to be in shape?

No. Most of our clients aren't. Foundations of Adaptation™ is specifically designed to build fundamentals, so you don't need an existing movement practice or a particular fitness level to begin.

Is this for older adults, athletes, or somewhere in between?

All of the above. What matters isn't your age or athletic background it's what you want your body to be able to do. We work with people at different stages of life who want to move well, build capacity, and remain active over time.

How is this different from a gym, chiropractor, or massage therapist?

Gravity Aligned serves a different purpose. We combine movement education, assessment, strength, mobility, recovery, and body awareness to help you better understand and develop your own movement capacity. Our work can complement other forms of care, but it isn't a replacement for medical care, physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, or other licensed healthcare services.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book an Alignment Assessment directly. If you're working with a healthcare provider on a specific condition, we'll ask a few questions during intake to make sure our work fits alongside theirs.

What actually happens in a session?

It depends on the pathway. Movement-based sessions may include check-ins, movement observation, guided practice, strength or mobility work, breathing, recovery, and hands-on cueing when appropriate. Nervous system and Pattern Alignment sessions use different practices specific to those services. Each service page explains exactly what to expect.

Can I do more than one program?

Yes, when the combination makes sense for your goals. Some pathways naturally complement one another, but more isn't automatically better. We'll help you determine where to focus and when adding another service would actually be useful.

What is the Monthly Alignment Experience?

Our membership. It includes a monthly session, movement refreshers, recovery practices, and community experiences designed for people who've completed a program (or are already in a consistent practice) and want the ongoing rhythm that keeps the work steady over time.

How the programs work.

Services & programs

How do I know which program is right for me?

You don't need to figure that out before contacting us. For movement-based services, the Alignment Assessment™ helps us understand your starting point and recommend the pathway or combination of approaches that best fits your goals.

How long is each program?

Program length depends on the pathway, your starting point, and what you're working toward. Some services can be booked individually, while others are designed as a series or longer-term program. We'll explain the recommended session frequency and duration before you commit to anything.

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice when rescheduling or canceling an appointment. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to the terms outlined in our Cancellation Policy.

Your visit

The practical stuff.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in leggings or athletic pants and a fitted top work well. Nothing restrictive at the waist or shoulders. We work barefoot or in grip socks, so shoes come off in the studio.

Do I need to bring anything?

A water bottle if you'd like. That's it mats, props, and any equipment used during your session are provided in the studio.

How long is my first appointment?

Plan for approximately 60 minutes for your Alignment Assessment™. Your booking confirmation will include anything you need to know before arriving.

How early should I arrive?

Arriving five to ten minutes early is perfect. That gives you time to get settled before your session begins. Please complete any requested intake forms before your appointment when possible.

What's your cancellation policy?

Where is the studio?

Fayetteville, NY — serving Syracuse and Central New York. Full address and directions are included in your booking confirmation.

How investment works.

Pricing & membership

How much does an Alignment Assessment cost?

The Alignment Assessment™ is $150. It includes your full assessment session, movement observations and testing, discussion of what we find, and personalized recommendations for where to begin whether or not you continue into a program.

Are programs priced individually or as packages?

Pricing varies by pathway. Some services are available as individual sessions, while programs designed to build progressively over time may be offered as packages. You'll see the applicable pricing before booking or purchasing.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, for longer programs. We can split larger packages into monthly payments to make the work more accessible. Ask about it during your assessment.

Do you take insurance?

We do not bill insurance. Gravity Aligned provides non-clinical movement, wellness, education, coaching, and related services rather than licensed healthcare services. If you plan to use HSA or FSA funds, check directly with your plan administrator to determine whether your purchase is eligible.

What happens if I need to pause my membership?

Membership pause and cancellation options are governed by the current membership terms. If your circumstances change, contact us and we'll explain the options available for your plan.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes — an Alignment Assessment makes an excellent gift for someone thinking about their movement, mobility, or long-term capacity. Contact us to arrange one.

Who is membership for?

Membership is designed for people who have completed a Gravity Aligned program—or already have an established movement practice and want consistent support to maintain progress and continue building capacity over time.

Do I need to complete a program before joining?

Not always. Most members join after completing a program, but if you already have a consistent movement practice, we can help determine whether membership is an appropriate fit.

What's included in my membership?

Your membership includes a monthly Alignment Session, movement refreshes, recovery practices, and access to member-only community experiences. Each month adapts to what your body needs, helping you maintain progress and continue building strength, mobility, and capacity over time.

What happens in a monthly session?

Your monthly session is a hands-on check-in with your practitioner to review what has changed, revisit important movement patterns, and adjust your practice based on what your body needs now.

Is membership the same as a program?

No. Programs are designed to develop specific capacities or work toward a defined goal. Membership is the ongoing rhythm that helps you maintain, refine, and build on the work you've already established.

Can I join membership while I'm in a program?

In most cases, membership is intended to follow a program rather than replace it. If combining the two makes sense for your goals, we'll explain how that would work before you join.

Can I pause or cancel my membership?

Pause and cancellation options follow the current membership terms. If your circumstances change, contact us and we'll explain the options available for your plan.

Are community experiences included?

Yes. Members may have access to select member-only group sessions, practices, or gatherings designed to support consistency, learning, and connection.

How do I join?

If you've already worked with Gravity Aligned, you can inquire about membership directly. If you're new and aren't sure where to begin, contact us or start with the Alignment Assessment™ for movement-based services.

Safety & scope

What we are — and are not.

Is Gravity Aligned a medical or healthcare practice?

No. Gravity Aligned is a non-clinical movement, wellness, education, and coaching studio. We do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent medical or mental health conditions, and our services are not a substitute for licensed healthcare.

I'm dealing with a diagnosed condition. Can I still work with you?

Possibly. If you're under the care of a healthcare provider, we may ask whether they have given you any relevant restrictions or recommendations. If something appears outside our scope, we'll tell you and may recommend that you consult an appropriate licensed professional before participating.

Will you tell me if this isn't the right fit for me?

Yes. If what you need is medical care, physical therapy, or something else, we'll say so during your assessment and point you toward the right resource. We'd rather send you to the right person than take a client we can't genuinely help.

Is the work physically intense?

The work can be challenging in the right ways—attentive, precise, and progressive—but it isn't about pushing to failure. We work from your current capacity and progress appropriately from there.

Do you use hands-on work?

Hands-on assessment or cueing may be used in certain movement-based sessions when appropriate. Any contact is non-invasive and explained beforehand. Consent is always yours to give or withhold, and your boundaries are respected.

Results & expectations

What to expect.

How quickly will I feel a difference?

Everyone responds differently. Some people notice changes in awareness or movement early, while others experience progress gradually through consistent practice. Our programs are designed around what develops over time rather than promising a particular result from a single session.

Will this fix my pain?

We don't diagnose or treat pain, and we can't promise that a particular symptom will change. Our role is to help you better understand your movement patterns and develop mobility, strength, coordination, awareness, and recovery practices that support your overall physical capacity. If pain requires medical evaluation or treatment, we'll encourage you to work with an appropriate licensed provider.

How often should I come?

It depends on the pathway, your goals, and what you're working on. Some programs benefit from more consistent sessions at the beginning, while others are designed around a different rhythm. We'll recommend a schedule before you commit, and you can decide whether it works for you.

What if I fall out of the practice?

You come back. Progress doesn't require perfection. If life interrupts your practice, we'll help you identify where you are now and find a realistic way back in without treating a break as failure.

How is progress measured?

Through reassessment. We periodically revisit relevant movement patterns and measures from your starting point so you can see what has changed, not only rely on how it feels. Both kinds of feedback matter.

Still have questions?

The best answers come from your assessment.

For movement-based services, the Alignment Assessment™ turns general information into something specific to you your movement, your patterns, your goals, and where to begin.
